「手から手へ展」とは

"手から手へ"展は、子どもの本に関わる日本の絵本作家たちが、「3.11後の世界から私たちの未来を考える」というテーマで世界の仲間たちに呼びかけて、作品を募った展覧会です。日本、スロヴァキア、そしてヨーロッパ諸国からの有志56名が参加し、震災から一年後の2012年3月、イタリアのボローニャで最初の展覧会が開催されました。その後、ブラティスラヴァ、ワルシャワ、アムステルダム、コペンハーゲンを駆け巡り、世界の人々に、作家たちの想いを届けてきました。その展覧会が、まもなく日本で開催されます。

2011年3月11日、この日を境に日本は一変しました。
Ｍ９の強大な地震。それにより発生した大津波による東日本の太平洋沿岸地域の壊滅的な被害。さらに追い討ちをかけるように“福島第一原発”が大事故を起こしました。放射能は大気中、海洋へと漏れ出し、今もなお事故終息には程遠い状況です。
津波被災地の復興と放射能汚染地域の除染は、日本にとってできるだけ早く解決すべき課題です。しかし、原発事故後時間が経てば経つほど、放射能汚染の除染の困難さが、普通の日本人の目にも明らかになってきました。子どもは放射線の影響を大人より強く受けます。子どもを持ったお母さんや若い女性の不安は甚大です。
このような状況の中、アートに何か手助けができるでしょうか。生きることで精一杯の人々にとって、アートなど役立たずでしかないのでしょうか。アートに何ができるのか……。（中略）
今この時、私たちアーチストができることのひとつ。私たちの発するメッセージが観客の方々に届き、それが人々の手から手へと伝わり世界に広がっていくことを願い、この展覧会に「手から手へ」と名づけました。

Message from Nana Furiya

3.11. This number symbolizes a period of challenge, but also the hope of new beginnings. Japan after March 11th is a changed nation. The country, having faced the sorrow and incredible pain left in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, witnessed incredible courage and discovered the will to build a more prosperous future, especially for its children.
However, on an individual level, questions about reconstruction and recovery still remain. What are the stories we need to tell? How do we tell them to our children? How can we spread stories of hope?
Children’s book illustrators, in their distinctive styles, began to propose answers, and were the genesis of an art exhibit with works that continue to recognize 3.11’s historical significance and look towards Japan’s future. 110 artists from seven countries celebrated the immense energy and vitality of Japan through the power of illustration in an exhibit entitled FROM HAND TO HAND. Launched in Europe in March 2012 as part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the exhibit traveled onward to Bratislava, Warsaw, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen, communicating its message of hope.
In March 2013, with added illustrators from Japan and Germany, an expanded FROM HAND TO HAND returns to Japan. The exhibition will travel nationwide to renowned museums over the next year and a half.
The works on display are not just the fruits of our inspiration, nor a simple record of events. They are a catalyst for reflection on an unforgettable yesterday and anticipation of a brighter tomorrow. We believe that FROM HAND TO HAND can sow seeds of hope in the hearts of audiences around the world, that these seeds will take root and sprout to give us strength, and that this strength will carry us forward into the future.
