Juraj Martiška was born in 1969 in Ružomberok, Slovakia.
After completing his studies at the Secondary School of Art Industry in Kremnica, he studied painting with Prof. Ľ. Hološka and Prof. J. Berger at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
His versatile works include illustrations and comics for children’s books and colorful oil paintings.
The titles he has illustrated in watercolor include a Slovak version of Carlo Collodi’s “Pinocchio” and a recent edition of H. Ch. Andersen’s “Fairy Tales” both published by Petit Press in 2008.

IMartina Matlovičová was born in 1975 in Bratislava. She finished her studies in 1999 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava where she specialized in Film Animation.
She currently lives and works in the village of Doľany where she creates paintings on wood combined with the use of textile and collage.
She illustrates children’s books and designs sets for the theater. She is also active as a graphic designer.
She won several awards for book illustration such as ‘The Most beautiful Books for Children’ in the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Culture SR Award, and the Gold Apple at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB). In the Czech Republic she won the Gold Ribbon Award.
Her works have been exhibited in the Czeck Republic, Slovenia, Poland, Japan and Italy.

Yukari Miyazawa studied illustration at the Japan Juvenile Education College in Tokyo.
Her career as an illustrator started when she was selected for the 2003 edition of the Illustrators Exhibition (Bologna Children's Book Fair).
In 2005 she was selected for the 2005 edition of Ilustrarte in Portugal and for the ’The Fabulous Coloured Pencil in the World’ sponsored by Associazione Culturale Teatro in Rome in 2006- 2007. In 2008 she was selected for the first edition of the CJ Picture Book Festival Exhibition in Korea.
Her first picture book “100 bébés” and its kamishibai version was published by Lirabelle in France. She has also illustrated Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple series published bt Chobun-sha. Her works are mainly done with pencil, but she is also known as a pop-up book artist.

Shigeo Nishimura was born in Kochi, Japan, in 1947. While studying commercial science at university, he realized that what he really wanted to do was draw. His encounter with the reknowned picture book artist Seiji Tajima led him to illustrate picture books. One of his first picture books was “Ofuroyasan” (At the Bath House) published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1983, the first of a series of books without words where children can delight in observing details. The series “E de miru Nihon no rekishi” (The History of Japan through Pictures), a bird’s eye view of history published by Fukuinkan Shoten, won the Grand Prix at the Japan Picture Book Prize in 1985.
In 1995 he illustrated Masamoto Nasu’s text on the atomic bomb, “Hiroshima”, published also in English by Fukuinkan Shoten. This picure book has been awarded with the Sankei Children’s Literature Prize.
His picture book on a night express, “Yak?ressha” , “Minna de asob?” (Let’s Play, text Akihisa Aruki) published by Fukuinkan Shoten, “Mushimushi densha” (The Insect Train, text by Rintaro Uchida) published by Doshinsha, are some of his most loved books.

Ikuno Ohata was born in 1973 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She studied oil painting at Western Wyoming Community College in the US.
Her activities range from the creation of picture books, exhibitions, illustrations and live painting events. “Sora no oppai” (Milk from the Sky), a picture book with a text written by K?ji Suzuki, published by N?bunky? in 2008, was selected for the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava in 2011.
She is the author and illustrator of the following picture book: “Kai no naru ki” (The Shell Tree) published in 2006 by Hensh? Kob? K? and “Hana no machi” (Flower Town) published by Hakusensha in 2008.

Erik Ondrejička was born on May 1, 1964 in the Old Town of Bratislava where he still lives and works in the exact technical branch of surveying and geodesy after having graduated from Slovak Technical University.
He has devoted his life to writing of poetry for more than two decades. In 2004 Ondrejička debuted with a collection of poems entitled On the Inner Side of the Eyelids. In 2006 the second collection of poems Evening Snowflakes’ Dance was published. In 2008 Ondrejička together with musician Miloš Železňák created a musical-poetic CD entitled The Five Perfections and Other Poems. In 2009 he wrote a collection (e)Pigrams and a book for children in verse - What’s Hidden in the Pencil.
In 2010 he created a musical-poetic cycle about the city in verse – Eyes and Rhymes – Night Songs from the Stone City.
Erik Ondrejička takes pains to be communicative in his poetry while striving for aesthetic and ethical quality. He combines a sense of time- transcendence with a contemporary vision of the world. By mastering classical poetic techniques he is seeking to rehabilitate traditional instruments of the poetic art, such as rhyme and the music of verse.
Three of his five books were granted a literary prize. His last collection Eyes and Rhymes was awarded the Most Beautiful Book of Slovakia 2010.
He is a member of the PEN Slovak Centre and the Club of Independent Writers.

Marek Ormandik: painter, sculptor, printmaker, book illustrator and graphic designer, was born in 1968 in Bratislava. At the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava he studied with Professors Lebiš, Rumanský, and Kállay.
He has participated in numerous exhibitions in important galleries such as the Danubiana (Čunovo, Slovakia) in 2006, the Town Gallery of Tula in Russia with Milan Ormandík in 2007, the Koloman Sokol Centre (Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia), the Orava Gallery (Dolný Kubín, Slovakia) with Dávid Čársky in 2008, the Kosovel House (Sežan, Slovenia), the House of Art, (Bratislava), the Art Club of Slovakia (Bratislava) in 2010, and in 2011 at the Atelier Vote in Vienna. Some examples of the many awards he has recieved in his country are the Meulensteen Art Award in 2007, the Martin Benka Award in 2008 and the Award for Art at the Crystal Wing. He has also been nominated at the Tatra Banka Foundation for Art.

After completing his studies in 1998 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava with Dušan Kállay, Paľo immediately departed for Paris. He continued his research at the Cité Internationale des Artes. Upon returning home, he dedicated himself to printmaking and illustration. Within his native Slovak milieu Paľo formed an innovative artist/author team, collaborating with writer and publisher Erik Groch. A new phase in his art career came with collaborations with foreign publishers, particularly with the Swiss publisher, Bohem Press. He has illustrated over thirty books; some of these have been translated and published in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Finland, Poland, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea and Japan.
At home and abroad, Paľo has been honored with awards, including: ‘The Most Beautiful Books of Slovakia’, the Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava and a prize at the Biennale of Illustration at Oita (Japan).
Paľo considers the book as a uniform visual narrative, a fusion of design, illustration and typography. His expressive style gives his books a dynamic sense of motion.
He currently teaches Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.

Igor Piačka was born in 1962 in Třebíč, Czech Republic. After studying graphic art and illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava with Prof. A. Brunovský, he continued with his studies at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels.
He was Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, heading a Figural Drawing course. Igor creates paintings, graphic arts, drawings and illustrations. Up till now he has realized more than fifty individual exhibits and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. He has won approximately thirty awards in Slovakia and abroad for Fine Arts.
He is now more concentrated on his paintings and graphic art but he has also illustrated a great number of children’s books such as:

Júlia Piačková was born in 1961 in Hlohovec, Slovakia
She studied textile art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava, with Prof. E. Antalová and then worked as a textile designer in the Department of Monumental Art for Architecture. From 1992 to 2006 she taught at the Department of Ceramics of the Apprenticeship School in Pezinok and since 2005 she has headed courses on Drawing, Painting and Arts and Craft at the Basic Art School in Pezinok.
Her activities range from painting, drawing, graphic art, illustration, exlibris and postal stamp design to ceramics and satirical drawing.
Until now she has realised twenty-five individual exhibitions and has participated in many collective exhibitions.
She has won prizes for Fine Arts in her country and abroad.

Noémi Ráczová was born in 1972. She studied at the College of Education of the Comenius University and then continued her studies in graphic art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava.
Her first illustrations for children were published weekly in the Slovak magazine "Vasárnap" for more than five years. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Italy, Hungary, Spain, the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic and has conducted many workshops. Noémi teaches Graphic Design, Graphic Technology and Computer Art at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Kosice. She loves to experiment with different classical and digital techniques. Her daughter Sophia is the strictest critic of her art work.

Harriët van Reek was born in 1957 in the southern Dutch city
of Leiden and studied fine art in The Hague and Amsterdam. She now works as an artist and makes children books, videos, animation theatre-performance while teaching Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zwolle. Harriët won the Golden Pencil Award for her first book 'The Adventures of Lena lena” in 1987,
and the Silver Brush Award in 2002 for “Bokje”. Harriët comments on her works as follows: “I make a book about every five years, because there is always something on my mind which tells me to do so. My last book ‘Letterdreaming with Do’ (2007), is about my preoccupation with handwriting and letters. I write and draw my books myself. Beside making books I work as a free-lance designer, animator and performer in the arts.”

Wouter van Reek was born in 1960 in the Netherlands. He studied audiovisual design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. From 1990 to 2006 he made several animated TV series with freehand computer animation. As you can see in the Coppernickel (Keepvogel in Dutch, one of his best known characters) series, he writes the text, animates and does the voice-over himself. Since 1994 he creates one short animation film each year for the Dutch version of “Sesame Street”. From 2005 Coppernickel has also become a series for picture books. They have now been translated into six languages.

He also illustrates for Dutch newspapers and in 2009 made a live-animation performance in collaboration with the Calefax Reed Quintet. In 2010 he published “Keepvogel en Kijkvogel in het spoor van Mondriaan” (English edition: “Coppernickel Goes Mondrian”) which won the Golden Apple at the 2011 Biennial of Illustration Bratislava, Slovakia.

Kiyoko Sakata graduated in 1998 in metal craft design at Tama Art University in Tokyo.
In 2004, her exlibris works were awarded a special prize at the Japan and Taiwan Exlibris Exchange Exhibition. Her first works in book illustration were selected for the Illustrators Exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair. In 2007 her first picture book, "La bambina di neve. Miracolo infantile." (text by Nathaniel Hawthorne) was published by Topipittori in Italy and then in France by Naďve.

Haremi Shinohara was born in Kanagawa, Japan. Her main technique is woodcut colored with water color.
In the years 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, her works were selected at the Illustrators Exhibition (Bologna Children's Book Fair).
She was also selected for Figures Futur 2000 of the Salon du livre et de la presse Jeunesse Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) in France.

1973年ベルギー・アントワープ生まれ。イラストレーター。アントワープのシント・ルーカス・インスティテュートで応用美術とイラストレーションを学ぶ。明るい色や、厚塗りの不透明な色彩、動く 人物を好んで描く。1987年にベルギーのコンペで入賞し、この道に入る。

2001年～2005年はテレビ番組に出演、子どもたちに絵の手ほどきをした。2006年には大阪で個展を開催した後、東京と訪問した。『ピーターと狼』やテキ スト無しの絵本『Feestpark』など、多くの挿絵を描いている。劇の中でのライブペインティングや、壁画も好んで手がける。

Tom Schoonoogh was born in 1973 in Antwerpen, Belgium. He studied applied arts and illustration in Antwerp. He likes to create bright colours, heavy non-transparent colors and moving figures. After winning a competition for illustrators organized by the Flemish government and the Editors Association in 1997, he began his career as illustrator.

He illustrates and writes storybooks, draws for magazines, theaters and museums, and creates animated films. From 2001 to 2005 he had his own television program on Ketnet, a children’s channel, where he taught children how to draw. In 2006, Tom went to Tokyo and Osaka for an exhibition on his works. In Japan, ‘Zahra’ (text by Corine Naranji), about a girl living in a refugee camp in Iraq, is very popular. Tom illustrated many other books such as “Peter and the Wolf” and “Feestpark” published by Lannoo which is a book without words about a young child walking in the park with his mother. Tom likes to evocate funny atmospheres full of people and animals. He likes to draw on big walls and act in plays

Katarína Slaninková was born in Bratislava in 1975. She studied at ŠÚV Bratislava (Department of Advertising and Applied Arts) and at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (Department of Free Graphic Arts) in Bratislava. Her main interest is in drawings, but she is also interested in painting, book illustration and comics as well as postal stamp design.
She has exhibited her works in Japan, Egypt, Serbia, Hungary and Belarus.

Peter Sojka was born in 1982 in Bratislava. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratisvlava with Prof. Ján Berger. In 2007 he proceded with his studies in Portugal at the Faculty of Fine Arts/ Universidade do Porto with the Erasmus Student Exchange Program.
The painting media which he uses is oil painting. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Bratislava, Vienna and Porto in Portugal.
His solo exhibitions are:

Erie Sonoda was born in 1981. She majored Architecture at university and then studied Graphic Design.
In 2007 she was one of the selected artists for the Illustrators Exhibition (Bologna Children's Book Fair). In 2009 she published her first picture book, "Service de Nuit” (Night Shift) at Lirabelle, a French publisher. Her latest picture book is called "Kowakunai mon” (I'm not Scared!) published by Enbooks in Japan.
She uses pencil and watercolor for her illustrations.
After the earthquake in 2011, Erie began to draw one sketch a day as a prayer for those who could not sleep in peace at night. Two of those one hundred drawings done between March 15th and August 10th is exhibited in FROM HAND TO HAND. This particular collection, entitled "Before Saying Goodnight",can be viewed at her website.

Gitte Spee was born in 1950 in Surabaya, Indonesia . When she was eleven years old, her parents decided to move to the Netherlands. She still lives there in a village near Amsterdam. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts ‘Gerrit Rietveld’, she started her career as an illustrator by illustrating books written by other authors. But now she also writes her own storybooks. Gitte has also done a post graduate course at the St. Martin’s School of Art in London and an animation course at the Royal College of Art in London. Her books have been published in several countries such as Sweden, Spain, Japan, Korea, USA, France and Germany. There are Apps of her work available in the App Store in several languages.

Koji Suzuki was born in Shizuoka, Japan, in 1948. Ever since holding his first exhibition on a street in Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku, in 1968, he has been active in a variety of genres including art, comics, picture books, mural paintings, posters, stage and costume design and art workshops for children. He is one of the most influential picture book artists currently in Japan and has published more than one hundred titles.
He has received numerous awards such as the Shogakukan Cultural Prize in Publishing in 1987 for his picture book “Ensokun Kishani Noru” (Enso’s First Trip Alone) published by Fukuinkan Shoten, the 35th Kodansha Prize for “Obake doraibu” (Driving in Ghosts) in 2004, and the Japan Picture Book Prize for “Blackinder” in 2009.
